Cozy Up to a Loveseat at the Table
11 Reasons to Consider a Little Sofa for the Dining Room

Houzz Contributor. Hi there! I live in a 1940s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected." I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia.

Mix and match seating for dining rooms and kitchens has been a trend for awhile, and now loveseats are part of the mix. Emerging from that trend, I've been spying high-backed loveseats in dining areas. If you're considering pulling up a small sofa to the table, there are a lot of ways you can make this strategy work as hard as it can for you — adding color and texture, bringing in prints and patterns, providing a spot for accent throw pillows, making the most of a smaller space... oh let's just get to the pictures already, shall we?
Create an instant banquette. Push a flat-back sofa or
loveseatagainst a wall to create a banquette. This designer has matched the upholstery of the banquette loveseat to the chair pads to unify the different styles of seats around the table.
Add flexibility. Short on space? This furniture can be easily rearranged to create a dining room or a living room.
Create a cozy corner. Here is another great example of a flexible living space. Pushing a sofa against the wall and adding a
pedestal tableand a pair of shell chairs turns a potentially wasted corner into an intimate dining space.
Keep a clear view. If your dining room is open to other rooms, put a high-backed loveseat on the opposite side to keep things open and make the space feel larger.
Add modern style. To make the slide-in easier, skip the arms and use a more lightweight sofa. This long,
armless contemporary sofais a great partner for the chairs across from it and keeps the lines of the room clean and modern, letting the unique dining table base get all of the attention it deserves.
Add an accent color. This high-backed loveseat adds a big burst of peacock blue to the dining room scheme and works well with the artwork above it.
Add print to the mix. The fabric on this loveseat complements the dining chairs.
Play with scale. This vast dining room might have swallowed a normal-size table and chairs, so the designer used a large table, two pairs of loveseats and a pair of large wingback chairs to fill the space properly. The result is an unexpected, eye-catching success.
How will your designer work with your room?Likewise, these
dining benchesadd their own fun cursive print to this dining room. Also note that they have wood arms and trim in contrast to the fully slipcovered dining chairs – the designer pulled off a great balancing act here.
